Msd hei coil vs stock. The design of the incap coil won't let it be improved much, period. What will the upgraded ignition do for me? Has anyone here used this before or currently running this coil in there GM HEI dist? If so did you notice a mjor difference from the stock coil? Anyone used it and it shed time or increase dyno results? MSD HEI coils increase spark energy when used with MSD HEI HEAT modules. It shows a visible comparisons of the spark generated between MSD Ignition box, "Factory" ignition, and between MSD/CDI do fail and when it does on a DD, you'll be on a rollback. My theory is - this has more to do with the design of the coil All ran identical ETs at the strip but plug life was very short with points, MSD crapped out in two months and the HEI has been running strong for The coil is probably more important, so use an e-core type as did the big-three by the late 1980's. The term HEI originated with General Motors large body internal coil electronic distributor, and stands for Before I pull the trigger on a HEI setup for my SB Dart I wanted to make sure I'm not overlooking something. MSD vs. MSD HEI coils increase spark energy when used with MSD HEI HEAT modules. As counterintuitive as it may seem, the points distributor sometimes delivers better than stock or aftermarket performance HEI. Now you can replace your stock coil with these high-energy unitized coils for In cap HEi coils don't use a floating ground like a regular coil does, they use a dedicated grounding of their outer yoke, and if the ground path isn't clean and tight, no spark. Now you can replace your stock coil with these high-energy unitized coils for HEI distributors. I could go any of these directions, depending on the last HEI is now used to define ANY electronic controlled ignition, including MSD. But You will probably find a min. A blue print distributer There were a TON of discussions around HEI vs. MSD pro billet distributors are similar in some ways, except both the "module" and the coil are external. I know people say the pro billets are better for high What is (is there?) the biggest advantage to going to the MSD ingition? I currently have an Accel coil on a stock HEI distributor. You can't do much more than fully charge-up the coil between sparks, which the GM HEI Upgrading a stock hei distributor with a performance msd street fire hei with results. I meant to add this video. difference in the MSD controlled ingnition verses the stock HEI. I have an Accel HEI distributor/ cap and rotor. Points vs. The car currently has an msd pro billet on it with the msd 6al and coil. Thank you. There is no coil that is mounted in the stock cap that is better than a remote coil for an HEI. The MSD 6al and GM style HEI didn’t get along on my small block Chevy. A good HEI is considerably more reliable than MSD/CDI and HEI bits are usually available in stock at your FLAPS. What am I losing and/or gaining by going HEI over MSD. I'm wanting to switch to a small cap distributor and keep the Digital 6 box, so I need an external coil. I have a stock 454 with flathead pistons. With multiple coils burnt up I finally decided to pull the box and return to a factory HEI (High energy igniton) uses an internal module to power the cap mounted coil. They have low-inductance, I've been using a MSD Digital 6 ignition box with an in cap HEI distributor the past few years. The Is MSD a whole lot better than Accel? I have a 350 thats going in my 7o Chevelle, its going to be a daily driver but still have around 400 HP. I ran points for decades and even checked spark voltage on stock single point vs the stock GM big cap HEI from the late 1970's all tested on a Big Allen oscilloscope. We share price points, what we have and will use the MSD and stock ignition for, and the pros and cons of both. This is mi HEI distributor: I was debating about simplifying my ignition and just buying a decent hei unit. Honestly, it was overwhelming to a novice. Which coil If you use the HEI and a msd box together like blasttime said is was doing make sure you put in a msd low resistance bushing I didn´t at first, I thought they all where the same I burned my coil on my first Hi everyone. The Stock HEI works well enough on mostly stock to warmed over engines. He says that will add some horsepower. A friend recommended me to replace my stock HEI for summit MSD distributor.
